How Do I Become A Certified Nursing Assistant in Delaware?
- Complete and pass your state approved CNA training program.
- Fill out the examination application form along with the $108 fee ($118 if you have chosen to take the test orally).
- Wait for your letter from Prometrics telling you the exam time, date and location. You should receive it within 10 business days. If you are taking your test at a facility, they will provide you with the pertinent information.
- Prepare for your exam using Prometrics Practical Examination Prep.
- Attend your exam and bring state issued photo ID to identify yourself at the testing center as well as your admission letter.
- If you pass the exam, you will become listed on the CNA registry.
Note: You only have three attempts to pass both the written and skills components of the CNA exam to become a certified nursing assistant in Delaware. If you do not pass after your third attempt, you will be required to take you CNA classes and training again in order to become eligible to take the exam again.
The pass rate for the written examination (on the first try) is 95.88% and 82.36% on the clinical component, meaning that the quality of material that is taught is high. This is because the CNA training programs in Delaware have to be taught by a Registered Nurse in the state who has at least two years of training in the community or within a clinical setting. Having a nurse teach the material allows the students better access to healthcare resources that they will need to hone their skills and gives them an expert in the field to whom they may direct any questions.
Continuing Education, Training & Recertification
The state of Delaware made it mandatory for CNAs to continuously educate themselves on the latest skills and healthcare changes. Here are the requirements for continuing education:
- Must be completed within the 2 year recertification period
- CNA must complete 6 hours of CNA training with dementia patients
- CNA must complete 2 hours of training in patient abuse prevention
- CNA must complete 16 hours of other general healthcare classes
- 64 hours of work as a CNA (aside from the 24 hour continuing education) during the 2 year period
Still have questions? Visit the Prometric site or contact one of the training facilities for additional information on additional requirements, which vary from program to program. Working as a CNA in Delaware is a wonderful way to give back to the community and create the life you’ve always dreamed of for yourself!
